On Wednesday, September 6, 2017, at approximately 1550 hours a Correctional Deputy was conducting routine checks in a dormitory style housing unit when he noticed multiple inmates looking into the bathroom area. He responded to the area and noticed an inmate being assaulted by Francisco Mendoza. He immediately called for back-up. After several verbal commands to get Mendoza to stop the assault, the deputy deployed his department issued taser. After being Tazed Mendoza complied with the commands and was handcuffed by responding deputies. Upon investigating the scene a sharpened spork was found that appeared to be used in the assault. The victim received wounds to his forehead, ear, neck and arm area as a result of the assault. The victim’s injuries were not life threatening and were treated by facility medical staff. Mendoza was charged with PC245(a)(1) Assault with a Deadly Weapon, PC245(a)(4) Assault by Force Likely to Produce Great Bodily Injury, and PC1203.2 Violation of Probation under HCSO Case #201704435.
