A Geographic Information System (GIS) is an organized collection of geographic data, computer hardware, and software designed to efficiently capture, store, update, analyze, and display many forms of spatially referenced information.  A GIS is a useful tool for researching area wide land features and local conditions.  Humboldt County's GIS is maintained by the Advance Planning Division.

In addition to supporting the Current Planning Division and the General Plan Update, the GIS is utilized by other county departments as well as many federal, state, and local agencies.
